Why Namibia?

Namibia is a photographer’s dream and a very diverse country to photograph. It’s in the colours, the scales and stark contrasts and the endless opportunities to tell a story. From the iconic sand dunes of Sossusvlei, the wildlife of the savanna plains to the rugged beauty of the Damaraland, this country offers an unrivalled diversity of natural wonders. The contrasting environments – from vast desert landscape in the south to expansive savanna plains in the north – create a unique palette of colours, textures, and light. Namibia's remote and pristine wilderness is home to an array of wildlife, including elephants, lions, and the elusive black rhino, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for wildlife photographers.

Trust us – Namibia will capture your heart. And you will capture its unparalleled beauty. This country, with such incredible landscapes and amazing wildlife sightings will make a professional of even an amateur photographer. It doesn’t take much to get a good picture. Namibia is spectacular so it is only logical that your photographs will be as well.

Be it the sun peaking above the horizon and gradually rising, changing the colours of the environment at every second, the clouds rolling in and changing the sky into a dramatic canvas, the golden hour in the afternoon adding that hue to each and every subject or the incredible night sky with thousands of stars visible and the milky way resembling a painting – you will need your battery charged at all times and your memory disc ready to be changed, for you will take pictures day and night.

Best Locations for Photography in Namibia included in the Safari

1. Sossusvlei with Deadvlei

Sossusvlei, in the Namib-Naukluft National Park, is world-famous for its towering red sand dunes, some of the tallest on Earth. The stark contrast between the vivid red dunes and the deep blue sky makes for captivating landscape shots. The light at sunrise and sunset transforms the dunes into vibrant palettes of colour, creating an ethereal atmosphere perfect for photography.

Nearby Deadvlei is a surreal clay pan speckled with ancient, dead camel thorn trees. The eerie skeletons of trees, set against the backdrop of orange dunes and a bright white pan, offer a dramatic and hauntingly beautiful scene that has made it one of the most photographed places in Namibia.

2. Etosha National Park

Etosha is Namibia’s premier wildlife destination, boasting one of the largest salt pans in the world. The dry, flat landscape is a dream backdrop for wildlife photography, providing surreal compositions as animals gather around the park’s numerous waterholes. Here, you’ll capture striking images of oryx, lions, zebras, and giraffes set against the stark, white expanse of the salt pan or the elusive black rhino at night when it comes to drink at the lit waterhole.

One of the most exhilarating experiences is photographing wildlife during the golden hour –early morning or late afternoon – when the soft light enhances the natural beauty of the animals and their surroundings. Our game drives will evolve around the perfect light for wildlife photography and the best opportunities to view some of the sought after animals on this trip.

3. Damaraland

Damaraland is a semi-desert region known for its striking rock formations, ancient petroglyphs, and desert-adapted wildlife. This area offers fantastic opportunities to photograph the dramatic landscapes, including the Spitzkoppe inselberg and the iconic Vingerklip rock formation set among the Ugab valley.
